PRESS
RELEASE
May
31st, 2016
Americans
for Security
in Central and
Eastern Europe
Americans
for Security
in Central and
Eastern Europe
announces a
rally in front
of the White
House on
Pennsylvania
Avenue in
Washington,
D.C., on
Saturday, June
11th, 2016, at
3:00 PM. The
rally is in
support of
U.S. strategic
security
interests in
Europe through
a lasting U.S.
/ NATO
military
presence in
Poland.
Russian
imperialist
and military
posturing is
real and
growing.
Following
aggression in
Georgia, the
annexation of
Crimea, and
war in the
Donbas Region
of Ukraine,
Russia now
threatens the
free and
democratic
countries of
Eastern and
Central Europe
along its
borders.
During the
military
maneuvers
code-named
“ZAPAD”
(translated as
“West”) the
Russian Armed
Forces
rehearsed all
aspects of a
surprise
attack on
Poland.
Today
Russia
represents a
very real and
even an
imminent
threat to
Poland and to
world peace.
Russian
President
Vladimir
Putin’s
repeated
announcements
that Russia is
strengthening
its military
presence in
the
Kaliningrad
(Koenigsberg/Królewiec)
region, in
immediate
proximity to
the Polish
border,
suggests that
Russian plans
for aggression
against Poland
are advancing.
Concentrations
of Russian
manpower,
weapons of
mass
destruction
and military
materiel are
clearly
intended to
threaten and
intimidate
NATO members.
These
developments
have drawn a
direct
response from
NATO in the
form of
broadening
military
exercises in
its eastern
region. It is
imperative to
further
strengthen the
eastern flank
of NATO now!
The U.S.
Administration
has earmarked
$3.4 billion
for this
purpose.
The 2016
NATO Warsaw
Summit of July
8-9 will
determine the
response of
the NATO
Alliance to
Russia’s
offensive and
threatening
moves,
including war
preparations.
NATO is a
defensive
alliance and
priority must
be given to
the Alliance’s
collective
security in
accordance
with Article 5
of the North
Atlantic
Treaty. For
the Central
and Eastern
European
members, the
summit in
Warsaw is
about putting
in place
military
capabilities
to deter war
because only
through
military
strength can
real peace be
assured in
Europe!
Considering
Russia’s
aggressive
posture
towards
Central and
Eastern
European NATO
members, only
a sizeable
presence of
U.S. Armed
Forces will
prevent war.
This is also
the only
deterrent to
Russia’s
growing threat
to world
peace. Just
as during the
Cold War, an
American
presence will
reduce the
probability of
a Russian
attack. We
consider this
a pivotal
issue facing
U.S. strategic
national
security
interests.
Now is
the time to
implement the
resolution of
the Polish
American
Congress
Conference of
National
Directors,
enacted on
October 18,
2014 in
Chicago, which
requests a
significant
and permanent
U.S. military
presence in
Poland and
establishment
of the NATO
bases.
Polish
American
communities
and
organizations
across the
United Sates,
as well as
those
affiliated by
interest, are
speaking with
one voice now.
The increased
Russian threat
makes it
obvious that
we must act
together to
petition the
U.S.
Government to
establish a
lasting U.S.
military
presence as
part of NATO
in the region.
Such a
commitment
represents an
essential
component of
U.S. strategic
security
policy.
Please
join us to
express
support and
rally in front
of the White
House for U.S.
military
presence in
Poland and the
region to
strengthen
NATO defensive
capability.
