Statement
of the Vice President for American Affairs,
Coalition of Polish Americans, Inc.
Washington D.C., May 10, 2019
I wish to communicate my concern
about, and my disassociation from, the public
rallies planned by supporters of Warsaw-based
'Konfedercja' in Washington D.C. and Chicago on
May 11th. The focus of the rallies, a protest
against S.447 (JUST Act of 2017), actually
represents a protest against Polish government
policy and not a solution to the otherwise
serious reparations issue. This attempt at
involvement, by certain individuals residing in
the United States, in internal Polish politics
has no place on the American political scene.
Past statements by this group, which is
essentially unknown in American Polonia, have
questioned the credibility of NATO in terms of
Poland's defense. This in effect calls into
question the U.S.-Poland alliance. Such a
position jeopardizes Poland's national defense
in the face of potential Russian aggression.
Moreover, the Konfedercja seems to have in the
past also called for greater assertion of
Russian influence in Poland's affairs, a
position which is in alignment with fringe
elements in Poland.
It should be evident to any thinking Polish
American or patriotic Pole that this group's
position does not represent anything we
support.
